An ancient work became again a contemporary one thanks to the sincere and respectful initiative of an artist who knew how to put the work of another artist within the reach of a wide public.
Just by transposing an original work on a different support, but being an art work too, Martine Macquart so dusts the works of the great masters of the last centuries, sometimes forgotten in immense stiff and cold rooms at the bottom of a museum, she dislodges inestimable paintings and restores them in their original technique on furniture of former times, created by known or not but talented cabinetmakers.

Did Fra Angelico see himself as an artist of nearness in the XXIth century?
As our contemporary, by his works, however he is a painter who disappeared for more than 550 years?
By putting her paintbrushes on a piece of furniture, Martine invites us to share a magic universe where we learn again to appreciate and to go alongside to an art work in the everyday life for itself and not for what it represents in some artistic heritage.
Once put the layers of protecting and suiting varnish, you are facing an unique piece, which is a pleasure for your eyes, but also a useful work, because, it will serve you every day of your life.
The contact with such miracles, at home, enriches the spirit, opens necessarily new artistic horizons.
Every study of Martine Macquart realized on the most convenient wood, thus not noble, is much more than a stylistic composition: these messages of our past testify of the life of our ancestors, of their faith, their convictions.
A historic report where the soul of a disappeared artist would be floating, a brilliant track of the small and big events of formerly, the life of yesterday seen by a historian and at the same time a craftswoman, a painter on wood …
It is all our artistic memory which Martine Macquart evokes and wakes at the reach of hand and of heart.

Martine Macquart has two passions: the ancient furniture and especially the painting.
Very young, she dreamed "to make" the Beautiful Arts.
Her parents dissuaded her from doing it, because " The art does not feed its man ".
His wife neither, moreover.
Obedient, Martine chose other vocational orientations and let her passions fall asleep in a place of her memory.
Fall asleep?
Rather to mature and to polish up! Over the years, she will go from a training course to a formation, learn until she masters and reproduces perfectly the techniques of the biggest ancient and contemporary artists.
Judging by her recent works, Martine Macquart affirms however a taste very pronounced for the Florentine painters of the XVth century.
In 2002, the artist decides to dash and to paint on an unexpected support: the ancient furniture! Both Martine's passions are finally combined in an original marriage, on the border between art and crafts.

The work of the cabinet makers of the XVIIIth and of the XIXth centuries faggot her completely. She thus gets back her expensive cupboards at Alsatian antique dealers and made them restore by a craftsman cabinet maker of Vimy.
Martine knows that she can rely on the talent and on the taste of Jean Pierre Depres: he will know how to put her work of painter on wood in value.
And what if it was Martine who emphasized the work of the cabinet maker?
It doesn't much matter, finally: the conjunction of the respective talents gives birth to a new work, a learned, precise, sensitive and popular mixture of ancient realizations.
The magic operated:
Martine managed to move closer us to several periods of the History; the Renaissance, it was yesterday, look, she lives next to you! It kept all its magnificence to invite itself at you, today.
Martine Macquart takes charge of the displays.
Then, only, a long work of preparation begins for the artist: between diverse treatments of the wood, accurate sanding, installation of the so-called apprêt composed of rabbit skin and of white of Meudon, the study, the choice, the assembly and the realization of the various motives, 3 months will have passed by before the final metamorphosis and the pose of protecting vanishes.
In the newspaper “L’Echo du Pas-de-Calais” of December, 2006, she declared:
"This work brings me the serenity, enjoyment, peace, total abstinence I am happy! ".
The quality of her creations transpires literally of this happiness. Doubtless, because Martine draws her inspiration from the work of the biggest painters and dares all the mixtures. She however asserts waiting humbly that every piece of furniture speaks to her, suggests itself even the motives its wishes.
According to Martine Macquart, she would thus be only a performer!
Bright, but a performer!
Do not delay to demonstrate her that her talent deserves more consideration and recognition, even if the modesty of the artist is really nice …
